MTN Uganda has boosted the 2016 Masaza Cup with fifty million shillings. MTN is the exclusive telecom sponsor for the Masaza Cup 2016.
The Masaza Cup is an annual football tournament that brings together all the 18 counties of Buganda Kingdom and the purpose is not only to promote sports in Buganda but to also encourage unity amongst all people living in the region.
“At MTN we are very keen at promoting activities that develop local talent and products that resonate with the needs of our customers. The Masaza cup gives us that opportunity to re-affirm this,” said the MTN Chief Marketing Officer Ms. Mapula Bodibe
MTN recently launched MoKash, the Mobile Money Micro Savings & Loans product, and Ms. Mapula commented that, “We’re using occasions like the Masaza Cup to educate customers on how to register for these services and get the best value from the MTN brand”.

Other services and products that are of interest and are being promoted in customer engagements during the tournament include MTN Paka Paka that allows customers to make up to 30 minutes of MTN to MTN calls the whole day for only 1,000/-, affordable Internet enabled phones for as low as 39,000/-, affordable data bundles as well as the Juzza Internet promotion where customers get 100% bonus data bundles of any bundles above 100MBs that they buy.
During the tournament, MTN customers who participate in promotional activities stand a chance to win prizes like branded t-Shirts and caps.
This sponsorship is also manifestation of MTN Uganda’s continued association with Buganda Kingdom to contribute towards the wellbeing of the kingdom’s people and its residents.
On his part, the Minister of Youth, Sports & Recreation – Buganda Kingdom, Mr. Henry Sekabembe Kiberu, commended MTN for the good gesture that will go a long way in strengthening the tournament and the kingdom’s effort to develop local talent and the community in general.
The 2016 edition of the Masaza Cup started in June and will go on until October. The county or Saza of Singo, are the defending champions from 2015 but its Ggomba and Buddu that have reached the finals and will tussling it out for the 2016 honours on Saturday 20 th August 2016 at Namboole stadium. The final will then be followed by the Luwangula (Winners) mini tournament that brings together quarter finalists from 2015 and 2016 for more football.
The Kingdom of Buganda consists of 18 counties (also known as Masaza). They include; Ssingo, Bulemeezi, Buruuli, Buweekula, Kyaddondo, Bugerere, Busujju, Mawogola, Ggomba, Butambala, Busiro, Kabula, Kyaggwe, Kkooki, Buddu, Ssese, Mawokota, and Buvuma.
