The outbreak of covid- 19 pandemic was with no doubt a handcuff for the entertainment industry as many artiste have taken sides with some chosing to be silent for the entire period while others opted for releasing good music, videos and staging online concerts as the industry is a competitive one.
While some Ugandan musicians abroad chose to give their career a break, Musician Deodee Muhima alias Tha icon known for songs like ‘te amor’ and ‘sheri’ decided to move with the flow “sing from home”. First, he released Omwoyo song an audio he had recorded with producer Malik Make of genius empire and while many thought he would resume his career after he gets back, the UK based artiste funded and released Omwoyo video with him appearing anywhere in the song.
The song was shot from Entebbe, directed by J buoy directed and had children from Namaliri talent group acting as Tha icon and the vixen.
Speaking to our reporter, tha icon said that he had to release the video because him together with the team were running out of time yet the industry is competitive.
About the choice of performers that appear in the video, icon said he chose children of all people because he was impressed by the young boy’s talent after he saw him doing a song challenge of another artiste early this year.
There’s been quite a bit of TECNO Camon 16 series news over the last few weeks, surrounding the upcoming Camon 16 Premier, Camon 16 Pro, and Camon 16 to Uganda following its release in Kenya, and just recently it was tipped that October 12 might be the Official launch day. Well, today, TECNO mobile Uganda seemed to have confirmed the date, through their Official Facebook Page in a post indicating that there are 5 days away from the launch of Camon 16.
Are you in for a phone upgrade? From the information we have seen from our neighbor’s launch of Camon 16 premier in Kenya, here are some of the specifications we anticipate to come with Camon16 Premier that makes it suit your new and emerging needs.
We noticed all the Models in the Camon16 series have four cameras on the back and two on the front. The front camera has been upgraded with more megapixels to give selfies lovers the perfect selfie. The front panel of the Camon 16 Premier has a tall 6.9” Full HD+ screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a pill-shaped punch hole for the dual selfie cameras (48 MP main + 8 MP ultrawide). It is an LCD, meaning the fingerprint scanner made its way on the side, under the power key.
On the back, the Premier has a 64MP as the main camera, accompanied by three other cameras that we can’t wait to unveil when the phone finally reaches Uganda. From the different publications we have read TECNO has finally heard our plea and acted , from rumors Canon16 series comes installed with Helio G90T chipset making it one of the pioneer smartphones on the market to have this super-fast and strong processor.
More to this, we are also informed that it comes with a type C charger with 33W fast-charging power up-to 70% battery in under 30 minutes. That’s super-fast, isn’t it? Share your comments about this advancement from TECNO. To be honest, from our smartphone critiques, this is the best TECNO has released this year and we can’t wait to get a hold of it for the full review. Keep this tab open for more information about this must-have device as we end the year.
TECNO mobile Uganda is currently pre-selling the Camon 16 Premier for a booking price of UGX 50,000 only from pre-selected shops all over the country. Be among the first buyers to get a free TECNO original Hipods earphones as a bonus gift.
We unfortunately haven’t seen any information leaking the full specs of the Canon 16 Pro and Camon 16 presumably we shall hear more about these closer to their launch later this month on 12th October.

Uganda has over 15 million students in different institutions of learning according to the Ministry of Education and Sports. As a way of controlling the spread of COVID-19, only 10 percent of these learners who are mainly finalist students will be reporting back to school starting October 15th 2020 leaving the majority at home. The Minister for Information and Communications Technology and National Guidance Honourable Judith Nabakooba in a recent media address urged continuing students to take homeschooling seriously as it could determine their promotion to the next class.
Now more than ever before, parents are going to find themselves having to go beyond periodically helping their children with homework and other such class assignments to ultimately managing their children’s education from home. Despite its novelty in many homes in Uganda, homeschooling has many benefits; parents get to spend more time with their children, track their scholastic progress, control the child’s pace of learning and monitor their children’s diets.
However, if not well structured, homeschooling can be challenging for both parents and students especially when parents have more than one child and have to juggle homeschooling with work and house chores. In this article, we share 6 tips on how to effectively organize the homeschooling experience and ensure that children are on track with the curriculum.
Create a designated homeschooling space Living and learning under one roof can be stressful if not well organized. In order to avoid confusion and having to always clear up spaces for study which can waste a lot of time, keep your children’s study materials in one designated specific learning space.
Design and follow a specific homeschooling schedule Make a specific homeschooling schedule for your child or children if you have more than one. The schedule should allot time for different subjects as well as the duration of study as well as study breaks for snacks and physical exercise so that students are not constantly bombarded with books. Try as much as possible to work the homeschooling schedule around your other responsibilities such as house work and career. As well, engage children while developing the schedule and show them the allotted times for breaks, screen time and other activities such that they are also involved with the whole process.
Work with your children’s teacher or school to map out the curriculum Mapping out the curriculum will help you track the progress of your child therefore do not be afraid to call up your child’s teacher or school official for ideas on how best to follow the curriculum from home in order to make the learning process simpler.
Emphasize good nutrition for your homeschooled child Learning is an intense activity that requires good nutrition for a child to concentrate better. Try as much as possible to include nutritious foods into your child’s diet in order to ensure that they are focused and happy learners. Fresh Dairy products such as flavoured yoghurt, Brookside fruit yoghurt, flavoured milk, long life UHT milk, TCA (Triangular) long life milk are appropriate choices because they are not only handy and ready-to-drink but are also nutrient rich with energy, carbohydrates, proteins, fat and calcium among others.
Look for learning opportunities beyond text books Homeschooling is a great experience to bond with your child and to teach them life skills that can only be learnt outside class. These can include baking, cooking and money management among others therefore use this opportunity to teach your child these skills that they will need when they are in and out of school.
Collaborate with other homeschoolers Help, supervise and encourage your child connect with his or her classmates online in order to facilitate peer interaction. As well, as a parent collaborate with other homeschooling parents in order to get resources that can enrich the homeschooling experience for you and your child

6 Reasons Why you Should Shop with Dombelo this Black Friday Festival 2020
Shopping Online for a long time was a niche service available only to a few people in Uganda, Kenya, and the rest of Africa. However, over the last couple of years online stores like Dombelo have introduced a few innovations to open online shopping to just about anyone. There are no limitations anymore to shopping online in Uganda. You do not need an address, you do not need a bank account or a debit card, you can even receive your order same day. In fact, it is even possible for an agent to place the order on your behalf, you just have to receive and pay for your order. All these innovative solutions and more have been introduced by Dombeloto make online shopping available to everyone. I will share a few of them here.
Having shopped on Dombelo over the last couple of years and also taking a closer look at the business, I have identified 6 ways Dombelo has made shopping online possible for everyone in Uganda. If you think you are too small or unequipped to shop online, go through this list and you will be surprised that literarily anyone can shop online at Dombelo today.
1. Checks Products for Quality
Are you concerned about the quality of goods available at online stores? This is a common issue that has deterred many from trying out online shopping. However, Dombelo already has a solution in the Dombelo Express. Dombelo Express is a value-added service where Dombelo physically inspects and warehouses goods from its third-party merchants before listing them.
Items that pass through the Dombelo Express certification procedure are labelled with a Dombelo Express badge. Before an item gets a Dombelo Express badge, the merchant must physically send it to Dombelo for inspection. During the physical inspection, the products are checked for quality and authenticity and are listed with the badge only if they pass.
This ensures that as long as you stick with items labelled Dombelo Express at the store, you will greatly reduce your chances of buying fake and substandard products.
2. Cost Effective Shipping
One secret of getting your orders delivered cheaply at Dombelo or any online marketplace is to order all your items from the same merchant. This ensures you benefit from consolidated shipping. However, this is not usually practical as it is very rare for one merchant to have all the items you need. This means in most cases you will have to order from multiple merchants and paying different delivery costs on items ordered from each merchant, leading to higher shipping cost.
However, with Dombelo Express, you can order from different merchants and since all Dombelo Express items are already at Dombelo’s warehouse, you can also enjoy the cost savings that comes with consolidated shipping. For an idea of shipping fees from Dombelo , Click Here.
3. Free Shipping in Kampala
The deal even gets sweeter if you live in Lagos. Dombelo is offering free shipping in Uganda for Dombelo Express products. To qualify however, you must order items worth 500,000 ugx or more.
Dombelo says this offer excludes heavy items, which probably means you will be able to order mobile phones as well as most fashion and beauty products and have them delivered free to your address in Kampala
4. Faster Shipping Time
This is yet another by-product of Dombelo Express. Because Dombelo physically stores Dombelo Express items in its warehouse, shipping is faster, which is an added bonus. From my experience of shopping at the store, I have noticed that Dombelo is a lot better and faster at handling orders when compared to its merchants.
By taking over handling and shipping from its Dombelo Express merchants, the online store is poised to create a better customer experience for shoppers.
In fact, Dombelo is so confident about its ability to ship fast that it is promising next day shipping for orders from Kampala, 2 days delivery time for items ordered from Upcountry. Occasionally, it is possible to get your order same day in Kampala if you order before 11am. For D0mbelo Shipping and Delivery times, Click Here.
5. No Need for Debit Card or Bank Account, Just Pay on Delivery
Dombelo introduced cash on delivery to make online shopping all inclusive. All a customer needs to do is select the items they wish to buy, enter their address or pickup point and the online store will deliver. The customer only pays when the order is delivered.
However, payment on delivery is not just about solving the problem of the unbanked or underbanked, it is also about building trust with customers. Shopping online is new; hence most people in Uganda are still skeptical about it. Some customers do not trust the merchant to deliver their order if they pay first. So, cash on delivery is a way to get people through the door.
So, if you do not have a debit card and think online shopping is not for you or you are just a skeptic who do not believe it is possible, just try Dombelo today. Place your order, Dombelo will deliver and you pay on delivery.
.
6. Door to Door Delivery
Though, Dombelo has a solution for people without a valid or logical address, but what if you have an address and prefer your orders delivered to your doorsteps? Dombelo also has you covered. Dombelo will deliver to your home if you have an address and prefer the convenience. That said, it is important to note that door to door delivery on the average costs up to 50% more compared to picking up your order at a pickup station.
So, if you value your convenience more, you can pay the premium to receive your order at home. However, if you are more cost sensitive, you can always visit your selected pickup station for your order.
Despite Nina Roz snatching the love of her life Daddy Andre, Angella Katatumba is stealing the show and has today released a song titled Emotional that many anticipate to carry a message to her ex boyfriend
Emotional is a love song that is based on a true love story that received an unpleasant ending as the two parties never reached a consensus of how best to manage their courtship a reason that left the lady in this very relationship depressed and emotional.
The song was written by Ugaboy Music, produced by Asteyn and the video was directed by Shilo Filmz. Are you a Katatumba follower?
Fortebet, over the weekend, extended a helping hand to 100 expectant mothers with Mama kits. The donation was given free of charge to mothers at Namatala health centre in Mbale; a centre that mostly serves the needy community of Namatala. The aid was officially handed over by Mr. John Nanyumba, Fortebet Media Manager.
According to Scola Bukusela, the assistant in-charge for maternal health, the hospital was originally designed to handle only 20 deliveries a month, but now handles at least 120 cases. “This is the reason we need as much help from everyone, just like Fortebet has done today,” Buksela said just after receiving the kits on behalf of the hospital.
Nanyumba said, “As Fortebet, we don’t want to witness loss of life of a mother or child at birth. One of the ways to avoid such deaths is by preparing adequately, and this is why we are here today. Every mother here today will go back with a kit, free of charge.”
Fortebet donated sanitation and protective gears to the hospital such as trash cans, sanitizer, detergents, and face masks.
On-demand delivery app Glovo has launched its operations in Kampala, a move that is part of its continued market expansion strategy. Glovo entered Africa in 2018, Kenya was the second country for the continent after Morocco. The expansion into Uganda will make it the second market in East Africa for the company, and the fourth African country where the firm has established operations.
A Glovo rider ready to deliver to customers.
Glovo is a multi-category on-demand platform that allows users to order anything with a
simple tap on their smartphone. It is entirely focused on helping customers with their immediate needs in busy cities around the world. Customers can order anything that fits on a motorbike and it will be delivered to them by a specialist Glovo rider, called a Glover.
These include groceries from Carrefour and other partners, restaurant food from KFC, Java
House and a wide range of the best local food, and an array of drinks and other products.
Restaurant food is delivered in a triple layer multi-compartment thermally insulated bag that has been extensively tested to ensure hot food arrives steaming hot and even ice cream arrives cold, even in the same delivery.
Speaking during the launch, William Benthall, Glovo’s General Manager for Sub-Saharan
Africa, expressed his optimism towards the new venture. “We are extremely excited about
our launch in Uganda and we think that residents of Kampala should be feeling the same
way! Hundreds of thousands of people in cities across Africa are already used to integrating Glovo into their daily lives to help them to save time and money and we are optimistic that our solution will be a welcome addition to customers, restaurants and stores in Uganda,” said Benthall.
“Uganda is a uniquely interesting market for Glovo. Residents of Kampala are used to using Boda Boda’s to move around and order food and other products. In addition to this informal market, there is also a large segment of the population using apps to move around or order goods for delivery. This provides an interesting opportunity to introduce a fresh new service with low prices and amazing user experience,” he added.
Customers can also use the platform to request a rider to send or collect packages, and they can track their rider at all times and whatever they order on the platform should be with them in under 45 minutes and If it arrives in over 60 minutes the delivery is free.
The 2021 general election is taking shape as days draw closer to the D-day. Today, 2nd November, nominations for presidential candidates kicked off. Three generals, Kaguta Museveni, Henry Tumukunde and Mugisha Muntu were duly nominated.
Given the scientific nature of the nominations, Ugandans turned to their TVs to follow the proceedings live. The political command center, NBS TV’s 360 coverage of the event provided viewers with timely updates of what was happening.
I e could easily note the bosses at the Next Media Park were out to get the most out of their enormous talent, with the big team seen to ensure that all presidential aspirants were covered fully. The television station started its live coverage as early as 7 AM and relayed all updates on their social media pages and via the live link on their website.
The presidential nominations continue on Wednesday, 3rd November, 2020. The election fever won’t end soon and one can, as we have known over the last few years, expect to catch the analysis and updates from NBS TV’s line-up of current affairs programs such as Frontline, Big Talk, Elections 360, among others.

How Can a Healthy Relationship Benefit Mental Health?
For a holistic approach to one’s health, both mental and physical wellbeing should be taken good care of. When it comes to mental health, one aspect that can have a huge impact is your relationships. The state of your connections with your family, friends, and co-workers can positively or negatively affect the health of your mind.
Relationships and Their Connection with Mental Health
Can relationships really affect a person’s mental health? Overwhelming studies have already noted that this is indeed the case. Those who enjoy good relationships with their peers and receive the love and support of the people closest to them live longer and healthier lives.
According to research, those with healthy relationships suffer less anxiety as a whole. And while insecurities may assail them from time to time, the fact that they have people they can open up to and seek support from when needed helps them overcome these challenges. They are also less prone to suffering from depression.
Those who went through the ravages of substance addiction are less likely to relapse as well when buoyed by good relationships. Not only that, the support of a loving family or group of friends can help someone weather through or overcome a period of loss and grief.
Stress Alleviation and Empathy
Good relationships also have the power to help you alleviate stress. In particular, a harmonious connection and intimacy between couples can reduce cortisol levels (stress chemicals in the brain), lessen depression and axiety, boosts sleep quality, and improve brain functions.
If you are on good terms with your family as well or have a few friends you can always hang out with, these people can easily help you relax from the stresses of life. By talking to them about your challenges or any difficulties at work, you can unburden some of the load weighing down your mind. With their support and empathy, you are more likely to find good solutions to your problems.
On the flip side, without the support and empathy from loved ones, a person can feel that they are all alone in the world. The loneliness or the feeling of being trapped by their current problematic situations can lead to a myriad of problems. These can include substance abuse, depression, disassociation, self harm, and more.
Clearly, the value of relationships on mental health cannot be underestimated.
On top of that, having a supportive circle of people can help someone achieve a sense of belongingness and purpose in life. This can also boost self-esteem and foster that beneficial feeling of security and trust.
Without that sense of having meaning in life and without that anchor of healthy relationships, one can feel isolation and oppressive solitude. Even if someone is often surrounded by people, if the connections are not healthy, this can still lead to the feeling of being an outsider. Conversations will just be superficial and one’s life can feel unfulfilling.
All of these can directly impact a person’s mental state and even their physical health. A lonely life can lead to a weak immune system, inability to rest properly, and poor eating habits. Beyond that, the lack of happiness and purpose can result in someone feeling totally disconnected that they think it would be better if they are not part of this world anymore.
That is why it is important to nurture great relationships as a way of taking care of one’s mental and even physical health. Having a few people around you who you can talk to no matter what, friends you can trust, a partner who will support you during difficult moments, or family members who will give you that sense of fitting in – all these can go a long way towards a healthier mind!
What Can Be Considered a Healthy Relationship
To make sure that your relationships will have a positive impact on your health, it is important to assess if your connections are indeed strong and beneficial to your wellbeing. So, what exactly are the characteristics of a healthy relationship?
There is respect between the parties involved and they treat each other kindly
The feeling of valuing the relationship and protecting it is mutual
The people involved listen to each other and are able to consider each other’s different perspectives
The sharing of thoughts and feelings is done openly
There is no feeling of being used
Disagreements and arguments do not result in violence or threats
Emotional, verbal, or physical abuse is never part of the equation
Carefully think about these things and see if there are any relationships in your life that do not meet these requirements. If there are any, it is highly recommended to resolve any bad relations quickly so they do not drag your mental health down.
Make an effort to nurture positive relationships as well. The connections you form with the people around you will have a big impact on your mental state. It is only right that you take good care of your mind’s wellbeing by fostering happy and fulfilling relationships.

There is no doubt that 2020 has been a defining year. The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic will shape our lives for decades to come – both on a physical, economic and behavioural level.
Prior to the pandemic, the single biggest change to society, both socially and economically, was coming through the advance of technology, as digitalisation provided us with greater flexibility, freedom and choice. Covid-19 has forced major changes in the way we live and has accelerated our reliance upon digital technologies.
In Africa, as on other continents, these changes have been felt for some time. One of the great opportunities of the new digital landscape is the gig economy. The gig economy has given millions of people the freedom to work and live more efficiently and effectively, in sectors as diverse as accounting and consultancy, software testing and mobility. It has also opened up powerful new income-generating opportunities for the continent, with individuals now easily able to offer local services within cities, as well as export services to companies abroad seeking specific inputs. But regulation has not caught up and is holding back the full economic potential of the gig economy and limiting protections available for gig workers.
In our post-pandemic world, the gig economy will only become more vital. Given Africa’s unique status as the continent with the youngest population but the highest youth unemployment rate, gig work is becoming increasingly important as a pathway to socio-economic development and income creation.
According to the 2016 Jobs for Youth in Africa Report by the African Development Bank (AfDB), nearly 420 million youths in Africa are unemployed, while the International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates that the number of youths facing unemployment in the continent is expected to reach 830 million by 2050.
Research conducted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) shows that Africa will contribute more people to the workforce each year than the rest of the world combined by the year 2035. The continent is expected to be home to 1.25 billion people of working age by 2050. In order to absorb these new entrants to the workforce, Africa needs to create more than 18 million new jobs each year.
Given the urgent need to provide jobs and livelihoods, it is time to examine the conventional wisdom that informal markets must transition into formal markets and that the availability of salaried jobs will come anywhere close to solving this problem. It is against this background that the gig economy is fast gaining traction, with on-demand delivery start-ups and ride-hailing apps leading the way.
If we take Kenya as an example, the Centre for Global Development (CGD) highlights how gig work is gradually changing how people access jobs, shifting the source of work away from informal labour and towards digital platforms.
As with most disruptive technologies, online platform work is leading the way. Currently, the Kenyan online gig economy is valued at $109 million, and it employs a total of 36,573 gig workers. In the next three years, it is predicted to grow at an annual rate of 33 per cent, with the total size of the gig economy reaching $345 million and consisting of 93,875 gig workers by 2023.
Despite the gig economy being the working model of the future, it continues to face challenges both for individuals and companies using this model.
Current labour laws are still not conducive and African governments need to develop labour legislation that supports workers in the informal sector as a way of sustaining the future of work in Africa.
In its report, Africa’s Gig Economy and the Role of Digital Finance, CGAP, a global development organization, cites access to capital as another challenge. Gig workers in Kenya cite savings, loans and medical insurance as top financial services they would like to access via gig platforms. While platforms across Africa increasingly offer credit and insurance, savings appears to be under-supplied.
Gig-based companies can offer better terms and embrace current and new responsibilities to their collaborators. Whereas gig workers may not enjoy all the benefits associated with full-time employees, it is possible to offer perks such as training and better income that would motivate the workers and encourage more to take up the gigs. Gig companies largely want to offer additional perks but are held back by current labour laws.
The challenges notwithstanding, the gig economy remains “the future of work in Africa”. As CGD says: “It’s time we recognized the truth about the future of work in Africa: it isn’t in the growth of full-time formal sector jobs. The future of work will be people working multiple gigs with “somewhat formal” entities. This is already true, and it will be for the foreseeable future.”
When we consider the future of work in Africa the question shouldn’t be whether jobs will be formal or informal, but how digital platforms and policymakers might come together to provide protection and benefits that more closely resemble those enjoyed by employees working under contract.
To ensure that African countries to benefit from the gig economy, policymakers need to regulate in a way that makes the gig economy both more sustainable and inclusive, making it less complicated to belong to either side of the labour spectrum. Perhaps then it could also serve as a panacea to the unemployment challenges faced by the continent.
