Maurice Kirya (C) poses for a photo with the Sula Pay team.

Sula Pay has announced a partnership with R&B/Soul singer Maurice Kirya to sell copies of his new digital album – Free Dreams – via their mobile money payment system.

The album which gets released today will exclusively go on sale in Uganda via Sula Pay, who help merchants sell their goods and services and receive the payments via Mobile Money.

The partnership is born out of the pure frustration that there’s no innovative and easy way creators and especially musicians can sell their products online.

Kyuka Isaac, the brains behind this product, believes this is the first step in creating a marketplace for creators like Maurice.

Sula Pay also processes payments on delivery for Jumia Food and Jumia Market. And is currently on a recruitment drive to onboard merchants to accept Mobile Money as a form of payments.

You can download Free Dream for only UGX. 10,000 using MTN and Airtel Money Here.

Comedian Patrick Salvado Idringi owned the evening at the second edition of his much-anticipated one-man show dubbed “Man from Ombokolo” held at Imperial Royale Hotel on Friday.

Dressed in a black African fabric shirt and red pants, the comedian was ushered on stage with a joint performance from local singers Fik Fameica, Nutty Neithan and Ykee Benda, before pulling what has turned into his signature move – calling for a grand re-entrance – which always draws applause from the audience.

Comedian Ronnie McVex, who was the host of the evening, wasted no time giving him the proper introduction he desired amid cheers from the audience which had now filled up the lower part of the auditorium.

Salvado returned on stage and dived right into the serious “unserious” business of the evening. He cracked jokes about the Ruparelia family and how the rich behave, then made fun of different tribes as stewards, and then took barbs at pastors and their miracles. He also joked about his parents and Ombokolo people.

Speaking about how he prepared for the show, Salvado revealed that he traveled all the way back to his village in Koboko district so as to draw new inspiration for the show. It is was evident that indeed his new well of inspiration was working as the show was marked by bouts of laughter from the audience as he performed for over two hours.

He concluded his show unveiling his charity foundation named after his father dubbed “Dawa Foundation” as he donated Ugx 6 million to Angel’s Center and Home of Hope, which are both Jinja-based charity organisations taking care of children with special needs.

The “Man from Ombokolo” season 2 was sponsored by Singleton whisky.

sports betting uganda

By Our Reporter

A leading betting company is faced with a massive reputation battle after some of its suppliers chose to seek legal redress for what they termed as ‘underhand and short-changing’ methods being used by this firm.

Information on our desks shows that some suppliers, through their lawyers have already served this giant betting firm with intent to sue letters with a ‘prayer’ that they are addressed and resolved immediately.

It is further understood that at the centre of these troubles is failure to issue contracts, make payments or at-least compensate the suppliers for works done between end of 2016 and mid-2017.

“The issue at hand is simple. Someone was asked to work and promised that a contract explaining terms of work and payment schedules was being processed. Mid-way the works, the firm refused to issue the contract and also indefinitely called off the activities. However, these people (suppliers) had already invested their money. When they asked for any commitments or compensations, the betting firm went silent,” a source privy to this issue noted, adding; “It is unfairness. The aggrieved parties are considering court as the only place that will resolve this matter.”

Our team is on ground and will keep you posted on this developing story.

Uganda Police had a total of 8 athletes that qualified to walk-away with prize money. They were closely followed by Arua Athletics club and Uganda Prisons Service with a total of six each that walked away with prize money.

The athletes traversed the outskirts of Mbale town and run as far as 14 kilometers along the Mbale – Tororo Highway. Flagged off at 9am, the MTN Eastern National Half-Marathon championships will be annual event.

The flagship event, the 21kilometers half marathon for men was won by Kiplimo Philip from Uganda Prisons Service, who clocked at time of 1 hour and 30 seconds.

Organized by the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), the event has been used to select a national team of men and women to represent the country at the IAAF World Road Running Championships slated for March 24, 2018 in Valencia, Spain. UAF will announce the team by end of 2017.

“We suggested to MTN to have 3 regional road races in a year, in the run-up to the main MTN Kampala Marathon as part of getting talent that would eventually represent Uganda at the international stage. This is just the start and next year we shall we shall have national road races in Northern, Western and Eastern Uganda,” explained Dominic Otuchet the President UAF at the Mulukhu grounds after the races.

Eastern Uganda remains the hub for talent in terms of long distance running. “Such events help with the rise of previously unknown athletes. Our partnership with UAF we are spreading the search for talent right across the country,” said Valery Oketcho, the Corporate Communications Manager at MTN Uganda.

The Eastern MTN Half Marathon, Mbale provided an opportunity to expose its ‘dormant’ talent and surrounding districts are situated in high altitude areas conducive to producing good and talented middle and long distance runners. safeboda

A new opinion poll has indicated that Uber Uganda is the most convenient and safest private transport means in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.

Uber is followed by motorcycle-taxi hailing app, SafeBoda which is new to the market but gaining momentum at a faster rate.

The poll, conducted by Drive in Uganda, a premier community for driving enthusiasts in the country pitted four top private transport means across the city, including SafeBoda, Uber, Friendship Taxi and Quick Taxi.

411 people took part in the poll which ran for four days on twitter.

Out of the 411, 55% of the participants chose Uber Uganda, 33% voted Safe Boda, 7% voted Friendship Taxi while only 5% chose Quick Taxi.

When contacted, SafeBoda publicist Damalie Wasukira told this website that despite having spent a shorter time in the market, they have taken a number of riders through safety training and are in the process of adding more to the app.

“At the moment the SafeBoda app request zone is limited to central Kampala and some of the suburbs because it takes time to train the riders how to use the app technology and also take them through road Safety training to make sure that we are providing the best service,” Ms Wasukira said in an email.

“We are in the process of doing this and will add more riders and expand the request zone of the app to cater for the demand. We are however happy to have over 1000 safe trips done through SafeBoda everyday so far and we are looking forward to growing this number,” she added.

Our efforts to reach Uber officials were futile as Aaron Tindisenga, the Uber Uganda country lead could not be reached on phone.

Drive in Uganda seeks to make the driving experience worthwhile in the country by engaging all the stakeholders in the sector. They offer crucial information about behavior of auto mobiles, road network in Uganda, fuel consumption as well as analyse the different service providers in the driving section.
