Uganda’s music doctor, José Chameleone has shared his thoughts on why the music industry is yet to be as big or bigger than that of Nigeria and other African countries that are soaring when it comes to music.

During his appearance on ‘NBS Uncut show’, hosted by Zahara Toto, the “Mateeka” hit maker noted that most Ugandan artists do not want their fellow artists to do well and always make it seem like it’s a competition of sorts ,instead of working together and supporting each other.

He goes ahead to say that some people criticized him for working with Khalifa Aganaga on a collabo, since they didn’t view him as Chameleone’s peer, which he disagreed with saying the only way the music industry in Uganda can grow faster is if all artists helped each other do better.

Chameleone also threw subtle jabs at Bebe Cool saying ,last year ,he made a list of his favorite artists ,excluding a big number of others, making it seem like they were in a competition and the rest had done nothing, making him fit the description of ‘those” artists he had talked about .

Mr. Eazi thrills fans at album listening party

Revelers having a good time at a recent party.

By Our Reporter

December is upon us and we are spoilt for choice on which parties to attend. While we thought we had seen it all, the latest info coming to our desks is that someone is planning a must attend pop-up club dubbed “You Are Not On The Guest List,” and it will happen at the Kampala Serena Hotel on December 20.

A pop-up club is basically a night-club set up just for a particular event and this time the Kampala Serena Hotel is going to be turned into a Las Vegas nightclub, just for one night.

Organisers of the event have promised to bring Vegas to Kampala and deliver an exciting feel of the bright lit boulevards in Las Vegas in addition to casino games, entertainment and the whole extravaganza that makes what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas.

We still don’t know who the organizer is, but with Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve confirmed as a sponsor and Fenon Events tasked to turn Serena’s Victoria Ballroom into a nightclub for one night only, it surely is not one to miss.

The event is strictly for reservations and tickets are already being sold online at quicket.co.ug. If you go with the Ugandan attitude of paying at the door instead of reserving your ticket early, we are sure the bouncers will tell you, “You’re not on the guest list.

Bryan White has paid extra divers at Mutima beach to enforce man power retrieve drowned bodies

The evening of November 24th 2018 will forever remain imprinted on the memories of most Ugandans especially the survivors, relatives, family members and friends of all revelers who had gone for a boat cruise / partying.

During the course of the cruise, the boat allegedly got mechanical issues and took in gallons of water forcing it to capsize.

Its alleged that of the over 120 revelers onboard, only 29 made it to safety and the rest were found floating both the dead and some alive.

Bryan White cut short his busy schedule and went to Mutima beach to join the men in Uniform (Uganda People’s Defense Forces and Uganda Police Force) in their efforts to recover the bodies of our fallen brethren.

He offered both financial and moral support and also helped mobilize local divers and fishermen to further navigate the waters of Lake Victoria to that cause.

The initiative is ongoing and we hope and pray that the bodies are recovered soon.

Our prayers go out to the bereaved and May the Souls of the departed Rest In Peace

DStv Eutelsat Star awards 2018 national winners pose with the 2018 Judging panel.

MultiChoice Uganda unveiled winners of the 2018 DStv Eutelsat Star Awards competition at an award ceremony held at their head offices in Kololo on Friday.

The eighth edition of the Science and Technology based competition saw Kizza George William from St Mary’s College Kisubi emerge winner of the essay category while Saviour Mpipkwe from Uganda Martyr’s Namugongo was declared runner up in the same category. Samuel Muwanguzi from Kings College Budo dominated the poster category as overall winner while Charlene Nuwamanya from Greenhill academy emerged as runner up for the poster category.

The DStv Eutelsat Star Awards are a product of a partnership between Eutelsat and MultiChoice Africa which aims to stimulate interest in science and technology and to inspire innovative thinking among secondary and high school students across the continent in 42 countries.

This year, students across the continent participated both in writing an essay or designing a poster to depict the areas in which they believe the full potential of satellite technology hasn’t been embraced or tapped that can help improve the lives of Africans and portray the different roles and functions that satellites would play in Africa if adopted in the future.

Making her remarks during the ceremony, MultiChoice Uganda PR & Communications Manager Tina Wamala said, “MultiChoice understands that this young generation is the future. With the fast growing trend of satellite technology, it’s only vital to develop their creative minds in preparation for a better tomorrow. Technology and science play a vital part that is why we invest in this competition. Our partnership with Eutelsat is passionately based
on our common belief that the two fields are great contributors to digitizing Africa.”

Over 26 schools participated across the regions in Uganda and a total number of 180 entries, vetted by a carefully selected panel of judges to determine the winning applicants.

The winning essay and poster will enter into the overall Africa awards and represent Uganda at the continental competition where the best essay on the continent will win a trip to Eutelsat offices in Paris, France and onward to witness a rocket launch. The continental poster winner will jet off to South Africa to visit the space agency at Hartbeesthoek.

“Uganda is no alien to the concept of winning in the continental competition of the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards and holds the record for most continental winners for this competition. Earlier this year, MultiChoice hosted the 2017 awards whose overall essay winner was a Ugandan student. In 2015 we produced the runner up poster winner, best overall poster winner in 2014, runner up overall poster in 2013, the best overall essay and runner up overall poster in 2012 and best overall essay in 2011,” Wamala added.

The panel of judges this time around included; Mrs. Fiona Kamikazi a Telecom Compliance Engineer at Uganda Communications Commission, Mr. Philip Asavio Nampundu from Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Mr. James Amatre, an English Teacher at Nabisunsa Girls school also representing the Ministry of Education, Mr. Michael Niyitegeka the Country Manager ICDL Africa-Uganda and Mr. Mark Kayigwa as a representative from Multichoice Uganda.

Bebe Cool stings “loud minority” following AFRIMA award win

By Nila Faisal

Bebe Cool walked away with the Best Male East Africa award at the just concluded All Africa Music Awards 2018.
The Gagamel boss managed to beat other contenders like Tanzanian singer Diamond Platinumz who had been pitted against him to bring the award home.

Bebe Cool’s AFRIMA nomination has been nothing short of drama. A section of Ugandans have been rallying fans to instead vote for their “in-law” Diamond Platinumz instead of the Gagamel boss due to his political affiliation. Some like music promoter Suudiman even went as far as congratulating Diamond for winning the award before the actual awards ceremony, saying Bebe Cool was Hipipo awards material and not good enough for an AFRIMA award.
Now Bebe Cool has spoken up following his big win and thanked his group of supporters he dubbed the “silent-majority” for believing in him and casting their votes in his honor.

Silent but effective (the Silent Majority). There is a very thin line between hate and fear. Hate describes a feeling of intense dislike for something/someone AND fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by a threat of danger, pain or harm. The process of achieving success is usually understood only by the successful and is always misunderstood by the unsuccessful. Most people misinterpret this process as arrogance, disrespect and/or pride. This process is comprised of hard work, honesty, belief and loyalty, which virtues must be cherished by those who want success.

Tonight is exemporary but at the same time we should not forget that wherever there is good, bad also exists and wherever there is bad, good always prevails. I would like to thank all my fans in GAGAMEL phamily, Uganda, Africa and the whole world for loving and believing in Bebe Cool and for taking your time to vote for me. Special thanks to these GAGAMEL members Kabaka Izz, Twine Crescent, Umar Kigozi, Amos Kewell and all those that have had a direct hand in making this happen. I am humbled.

On a sad note, my heart and prayers are with the families of those who have lost their beloved ones in the unfortunate accident on L.Victoria. We are with you in pain and sorry. May their souls rest in erternal peace. I dedicate this award to the two sides bad and good, those who love me and those who hate me, the Silent Majority and the loud minority, the believers and non believers.

In GAGAMEL, failure is not an option. If you know you know- but then again, I AM BEBE COOL.
#TONDEKA_EKIWATULE_MUTIMA_ZABU 26th December 2018.” Bebe Cool wrote.
